Teacher Class Assignments For 2012-2013

Dear Parents And Guardians of Current Kindergarten through Seventh Graders,

Each spring the teachers and work together to create the class lists for the next school year. This grouping process also includes the pupil services team, special area teachers, our school nurse, and administration. The staff considers many aspects when creating the class lists and includes factors such student learning style, support service needs, social/emotional needs, gender balance, teacher instructional style, class size, academic characteristics, and chronological age. The success of our students our primary focus when creating class lists.

EPS School Registration May 5th

April 27th, 2012

School registration for next year will take place on May 5th from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm in the East Prairie School Learning Center. A May registration is preferred because is helps the school prepare for class sizes, number of teachers, room arrangements, etc.

You may register and pay fees online or in person but remember you MUST prove residency in person. If you need a registration packet please pick one up at the school office the week of May 1st.

The best proof of residency is your mortgage payment book or latest real estate tax bill. If you need a form to be notarized by a landlord or living with a district resident please pick one up at the office or on the online registration form.

EPS Townhall Meetings On School Finance

February 21st, 2012

Dear Parents and Community Members:

On behalf of the School Board Finance Committee, I'd like to take the opportunity to invite you to East Prairie's first series of Town Hall meetings regarding school finance. The first meeting was held on November 3rd, in the East Prairie Library. The subject was an overview of school finance.

The goal of these meetings is to inform the East Prairie Community about our present and future finances. Presently, our District's financial health is very positive but our revenues are trending downward as our expenditures are moving upward. The Finance Committee felt that after reviewing these patterns, we should bring our community up to date as to the financial health of our school district.

In the years ahead, East Prairie School is committed to excellence in our educational programs and services for the more than 550 boys and girls in our school community. Continuous improvement in all facets of our important work is the basic tenet of the Long Range Goals contained in this brochure.

The 16 goals and expected outcomes described are in the areas of Finance, Communications, Instruction, Personnel, Health and Safety, and Facility/Property. It is the commitment of the Board of Education and the Administration to work collaboratively with our outstanding professional staff and our community to complete all these goals in the years from 2011- 2015.

Sizzling Summer Science At Niles West

May 16th, 2012

Welcome to our fifth season of Sizzling Summer Science. At District 219, science isn't just about studying from a textbook and taking tests ... it's about experiencing and exploring. Our highly qualified science teachers know that science education can be exciting and empowering for everyone, and we look forward to introducing some young budding scientists to the thrill of discovery.
Many of our high school students go on to successful careers in the sciences. Two past District 219 students have actually won the Nobel Prize, one in medicine and one in chemistry. Who knows: maybe one of this summer's Sizzling Science participants will go on to win one, too! Summer Sizzling Engineering At Niles West

Summer will be here sooner than you think. So if your child is entering grade, four, five, six, seven or eight during the upcoming school year, is curious about the how things work and is into having fun, learning something new and making new friends, then you'll want to sign them up soon.

District 219 is proud to offer the third annual summer engineering enrichment program to children in the Niles Township area. District teachers have developed activities which will immerse children in many exciting areas of engineering. This project-based, hands-on and real-world problem solving camp is based on the successful pre- engineering program of Project Lead the Way (PLTW), offered at both Niles North and Niles West High Schools. Snapshots of a Very Busy School Library

The Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) gives the Bluestem Award and the Monarch Award to the authors whose books receive the most votes from children throughout Illinois Students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grades take their voting very seriously for the Monarch Awards and intermediate students grades 3-5 mark their choice for the Bluestem award.

Look What’s New

January 5th, 2012

The final shelving units for our School Library were installed over Winter Break. Jerry McDonald and his crew deserve a big thank you! These shelves give us more room for the heavy picture books as well as much need out-of-sight storage. The number of books checked out has increase by 4000 items from 2 years ago. The number of items in active circulation is now up to 19,000. We have increased our collections numbers through the following avenues.

Girls Soccer Clinic – FREE!!!

The goal of the clinic is to help young players to understand and enjoy the game of soccer.
The goal is achieved through the development of individual skills and through the concept of team play.
The clinic will provide players with the experience of being coached by the high school and feeder club staffs.

Grades 1-4 – 1:00-2:30 p.m.
Grades 5-8 – 2:30-4:00 p.m.
