Family Literacy Night - April 9th

April 8th, 2014

Family Literacy Night is tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 9th from 6:30-8:00pm. This year's theme is Funny Stories. Pre K- 5th grade students and their families are welcome to attend and listen to stories read and told by teachers, parents and middle school students. There will also be a raffle at the end of the evening with a book give-away. Please join our EPS community during D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) Week at this evening event!

D.E.A.R. Week - April 7th- 11th

Each day will have a theme, so start thinking about what you would like to read!

We will:
Drop Everything And Read each day of the week at a different time...You may have a read aloud or you may be silent reading with your class. No matter where you are, you will DEAR!

Each morning we will have a special announcement with a little treat based on our theme of the day, so get excited about this special time.

Here are the following themes:
Monday - Reading from a Play (Romeo and Juliet)
Tuesday - Reading from a "Classic" Old Man in the Sea or Goodnight Moon)
Wednesday - Reading Poetry (Sijo Poetry)
Thursday - Reading Non-Fiction about Statistics or Data (Guinness Book of World Records)
Friday - Current Events (newspaper, online daily news, Scholastic News)

Upcoming ISAT Tests

February 12th, 2014

Dear Parent or Guardian,

We will be giving your child state-required achievement tests beginning on March 4th-10th. Students in grades 4 and 7 will be tested in reading, mathematics, and science. Students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 8 will be tested in reading and mathematics.
The tests are a part of the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) program and are being given to all eligible students. The results of these state tests will be reported to you on the School Report Card in the fall. We will review state test results along with other information to help us improve our school program. In addition, you will receive information about your child's performance on the state tests he or she took. These will be mailed to you in the fall of 2014.

Mid Year Update and Changes

January 16th, 2014

Dear Families,

The intent of this letter is to give you some updates on procedures, policies, and protocols that went into effect with the beginning of the New Year as well as some up to date information regarding the changes to the school calendar because of the two snow days used on January 6th and 7th, 2014. Please take some time to review the information. Feel free to contact me should you have questions or concerns.

The last day of school will be Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Just a reminder that beginning with this school year, state code mandates that the first and last day of school are full days. We will dismiss at our regular times on June 10th.

8th grade graduation will still take place on Thursday, June 5th.

Preschool and Kindergarten will both end on Wednesday, June 4th. (as listed on the ...

The PowerSchool for Parents and PowerSchool for Students mobile apps are now available for the Android Operating System. What features will these new apps include? Updated Browsers Can Help Students Do Homework

East Prairie School has been putting a lot of emphasis on technology and by staying up to date with browsers and software patches, can help your kids succeed when off campus.
One of the most used tools at EPS is the School Districts' Google Accounts. Be sure that your browsers are up to date and ready for their time at home by downloading Google Chrome. It is free, secure, and should interface with the student google accounts flawlessly.

Boys Volleyball and Girls Soccer

March 6th, 2014

Spring sports at EPS are about to start!!! Boys volleyball and girls soccer will start their seasons this month. Volleyball tryouts will be for all boys in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade on March 17th, 2014. Girls soccer will hold their tryouts after spring break. Snapshots of a Very Busy School Library

The Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) gives the Bluestem Award and the Monarch Award to the authors whose books receive the most votes from children throughout Illinois Students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grades take their voting very seriously for the Monarch Awards and intermediate students grades 3-5 mark their choice for the Bluestem award.

Look What’s New

January 5th, 2012

The final shelving units for our School Library were installed over Winter Break. Jerry McDonald and his crew deserve a big thank you! These shelves give us more room for the heavy picture books as well as much need out-of-sight storage. The number of books checked out has increase by 4000 items from 2 years ago. The number of items in active circulation is now up to 19,000. We have increased our collections numbers through the following avenues.

PTA Gift To School

March 7th, 2014

The process of selecting a gift to school for 2014-15 is beginning now. This month we distributed (PTA & teacher meetings) the recommendation forms (a form was attached to the PTA minutes). Anyone may submit a recommendation. Forms are due by March 7, 2014 to the fundraising committee via the PTA mailbox. Then the fundraising committee will meet with the principal for additional ideas. The fundraising committee will meet to come up with a recommendation that will be presented at the April, 2014 PTA meeting for discussion. The vote will be at the May, 2014 PTA meeting.

Our theme this year is asking our supporters to be our Superheroes! We would welcome any items, including bulk items for door prizes or "goody bags."

The mission of the East Prairie School Foundation is to enhance and enrich the East Prairie educational program by providing independent financial support for projects, activities, equipment and other educational initiatives.
