Illinois 5-Essentials Survey Open |

Dear Parents, Teachers, parents and students (grades 6-8) have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey: Organizing Schools for Improvement. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child's school.
UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, will administer the Illinois 5Essentials Survey online. This survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. The five indicators that effect school success are:
-Effective Leaders -Collaborative Teachers -Involved Families -Supportive Environments -Ambitious Instruction

Emergency Closing Information |

Dear All,
It's that time of year when all of us are anticipating the change of the seasons. With that in mind, I wanted to write you a note regarding emergency procedures in the event that we can't have school because of weather.
In most cases, East Prairie School will be open. In years past, we have not used many snow days - last year we didn't use any! Regardless, we must be prepared! In the event that the weather is such that our buses cannot run and/or it would be dangerous to have children, parents, and staff members on the road we will cancel school.

Online Registration For 2013-2014 Is Open |

Online Registration Features Within Powerschool
Registration for the 2013-2014 School year is now open. Just like in years past, this can be done in Powerschool Parent Portal, in which you have the ability to double check the majority of the student enrollment, and registration information online. Now, by using the Powerschool Parent Portal, you will have the ability to review all of the current registration information that we have on file for your child(ren).
Some of the items that you will need to double check with our online demographics page, will include phone numbers, addresses, birthplace, birth certificate numbers, all of the child's mothers and fathers demographic information including work, home, and cell phone numbers. 10 Minute Tutorial For Online Registration |

This 10 minute video will introduce you to the EPS online registration process, which is designed to save time and resources. Prior to registration, you should receive a report, detailing all of the registration information we currently have on file for your each of your children. This 2 to 3 page report should contain about 75% of the information that you are required to fill out every year during the registration process. This information is now part of our online registration service. Please check that sheet for accuracy before you go to our school and make any changes.

Boys Volleyball |
March 13th, 2013 |
Boys volleyball tryouts will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013. All boys interested must turn in a signed volleyball packet and have a physical exam on file with the school nurse. The first practice will take place on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 330-500. Click for full story

The Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) gives the Bluestem Award and the Monarch Award to the authors whose books receive the most votes from children throughout Illinois Students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grades take their voting very seriously for the Monarch Awards and intermediate students grades 3-5 mark their choice for the Bluestem award.

Look What’s New |

The final shelving units for our School Library were installed over Winter Break. Jerry McDonald and his crew deserve a big thank you! These shelves give us more room for the heavy picture books as well as much need out-of-sight storage. The number of books checked out has increase by 4000 items from 2 years ago. The number of items in active circulation is now up to 19,000. We have increased our collections numbers through the following avenues.

Family Reading Night |

Family Reading Night: This event is scheduled for April 9, 6:30-8pm, Students in preK - 5th grades and their families are welcome to join us for a fun evening of storytelling at East Prairie School. The Theme is "Digging for Treasure: Discover EPS Teacher Favorites". Travel on an adventure quest to find and listen to EPS teachers' favorite books. Feel free to wear your Pajamas! At the end of the event there will be a book give away and raffle prizes. We hope to see you there!

DATE CHANGE: PTA Art Night Moved To 2/12 |

PLEASE NOTE: The February Art Night date is being moved from tomorrow, Feb. 7 to next Tuesday Feb. 12 at 6:00 p.m. Come join us for a two-month project as we make Greek vessels out of paper mache! All students and family members welcome and as always, the program is free. If you are unable to be with us next week, then we hope to see you on March 7 to join the art project AND enjoy some delicious Greek food cooked by some of our East Prairie families.
