Town Hall Meeting - Safety In Our School Community

April 7th, 2015

Tuesday April 14, 2015 7 p.m. Niles North High School Student Commons 9800 Lawler, Skokie.

D219 Superintendent Nanciann Gatta will share the results of our most recent social norms survey, which measures the social and behavioral choices our students are making.
Audience members can join in discussions led by Niles North and Niles West students and representatives from local social service agencies on various topics related to safety in our schools.

Join us for an Information Fair and refreshments following the meeting.

D.E.A.R. Week - April 6th- 10th

April 6th, 2015

Monday begins our weeklong celebration of D.E.A.R. Week - Drop Everything and Read Week. We will have an activity each day that celebrates and promotes reading in the school. Teachers and staff members will share the daily activity with students, and there will be a surprise D.E.A.R. time each day where students will have the opportunity to read. It could be in PE class or in science class.

Students will know that they should have a book on hand for this exciting surprise each day. Some of the in-class activities will include a guest mystery reader, an art activity and on Friday, April 10th, it will be "Dress as your Favorite Book Character" day. We encourage all students and staff to think creatively and appropriately about planning a fabulous and fun costume of their favorite literary character.

Below you will find some of the changes and clarification about registration and proof of residency for the 2015-2016 school year. We understand that these procedures may be new for some people, and we are happy to help you in any way we can. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Franco in the main office.

Registration for the 2015-2016 school year is on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 9:00am-2:30pm.
There are some CHANGES for registration that ALL families need to be aware of:

1. All registration materials and proof of residency need to all be turned in and approved at one time. The school office will not hold onto pending/incomplete paperwork.

2. Please see the revised chart for Proof of Residency. You must bring the documents listed on the chart.

East Prairie School is beginning the Strategic Planning Process. A Strategic Plan provides direction and guidance to our school community. The current Strategic Plan expires at the end of this school year. To accomplish such a new plan, we are requesting your input. Parent involvement is a critical part of the process and we ask that you consider becoming part of this activity. In order to participate, we ask that you attend one meeting and work with a focus group to answer and prioritize the following questions:

Illinois 5-Essentials Survey Open

Dear East Prairie Family,

Beginning January 12, teachers, parents, and students across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the third annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child's school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child's school.

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. Updating Contact Preferences in Powerschool

January 12th, 2015

There are many ways in which EPS will communicate with you during the year. To help us make sure that we can contact you at the right phone number, email address, and now at a text number in case of emergency, please sign into your Powerschool Parent Portal (http://epsd73.powerschool.com) and update your personnel information. This will need to be done for each of your children that attends school at East Prairie.

In the Powerschool Parent Portal, click on the link entitled “Power Announcement.”

After that page has loaded, click the option entitled “Expand All.”

On this screen you will find all of the current demographic information that we have on file. If there are any changes, please be sure to update them click Save Preferences.

Online Registration Features Within Powerschool

Registration for the 2014-2015 School year is now open. Just like in years past, this can be done in Powerschool Parent Portal, in which you have the ability to double check the majority of the student enrollment, and registration information online. Now, by using the Powerschool Parent Portal, you will have the ability to review all of the current registration information that we have on file for your child(ren).

Some of the items that you will need to double check with our online demographics page, will include phone numbers, addresses, birthplace, birth certificate numbers, all of the child's mothers and fathers demographic information including work, home, and cell phone numbers. Snapshots of a Very Busy School Library

The Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) gives the Bluestem Award and the Monarch Award to the authors whose books receive the most votes from children throughout Illinois Students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grades take their voting very seriously for the Monarch Awards and intermediate students grades 3-5 mark their choice for the Bluestem award.

Look What’s New

The final shelving units for our School Library were installed over Winter Break. Jerry McDonald and his crew deserve a big thank you! These shelves give us more room for the heavy picture books as well as much need out-of-sight storage. The number of books checked out has increase by 4000 items from 2 years ago. The number of items in active circulation is now up to 19,000. We have increased our collections numbers through the following avenues.
